Ease of Living
Features in Action

This slide show presentation illustrates how ease of living features were put to use in our remodel project that was in the 2003 Portland Tour of Remodeled Homes .
"With the new kitchen in place we have so much more storage and counter space, as well as a lower, accessible counter with a sink and dining space for my daughter. This provides an opportunity for her to be an active member in our family and she's now able to participate in preparation of family meals, and even better, clean up!"
"Troy, I hope you know how much we appreciate you professionally and personally."

This beautifully remodeled one-level house has been home to the present owners for 27 years. The house was originally built without any consideration for the needs of a family member in a wheelchair.
Troy Farnsworth Building Design & Planning, along with the expertise of Interior Designer Donna Barton, designed and remodeled the home to accommodate the client's needs. Strategically placing windows, skylights and a Solatube compliment the remodel, which consists of removing 3 closets and widening the hallway to remove barriers that were nearly impossible for anyone in a wheelchair to maneuver.
The client commented about the remodel, "My daughter, who is both physically and mentally challenged, can now get into her bedroom, computer room and bathroom independently and turn on/off switches that she can reach now."
Next, we removed the old "galley" kitchen walls that divided the family room and dining room from one another. This is now the great room and dining area - with a dramatic 10-foot-long china cabinet. A new, more functional, accessible kitchen was built in place of the old family room. |
